What is Rugged Obsidian 45?
Rugged Suppressors, the company that created the industry’s first-ever modular rifle suppressor with the Surge 762, has now launched the industry’s quietest 45 pistol suppressor—the Obsidian 45™.
This new multi-caliber, modular pistol suppressor meters at an industry-leading 129.3 decibels dry on .45ACP. Constructed of aluminum and 17-4PH stainless steel, the Obsidian 45 also comes with Adapt™ Modular Technology. The Adapt™ module allows users to configure the Obsidian in a standard 8.6” to a 6.7” short configuration within seconds. It’s full-auto rated for pistol calibers up-to .45 ACP can be used with 300 Blackout subsonic rifle ammunition.
“We’re known for our modular suppressors,” said Henry Graham, President of Rugged Suppressors, “so when we were designing our introductory pistol offering, we knew it had to be modular. What you have with the Obsidian is a no compromise 45 suppressor that customers can choose to configure themselves.
The Obsidian 45’s namesake comes from the tough, naturally occurring volcanic glass made from cooled lava. And it lives up to its name. It comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty. (Drop it from a mountaintop and Rugged will fix it or replace it free of charge.)
Product Description

Obsidian 45 baffles are machined from 17-4 Stainless steel barstock, with two indexing tabs for proper alignment. With serviceability in min the Obsidian baffles create a gas seal that virtually eliminates carbon build up between the baffles and tube. The Obsidian 45 uses a non-slatted design creating a full circumference gas seal.
The drastically lowers gas blowback for a more enjoyable shooting experience. The Obsidian 45 pistons are cross compatible with Silencer Co slotted pistons. The Obsidian 45 mount is machine from 17-4 Stainless steel barstock. The engraving is strategically placed on the thickest cross section of the 17-4 stainless steel mount for fast and easy replacement should the suppressor become damaged beyond repair, it also serves to make the Obsidian 45 infinitely upgradable in the future. Okay, when pistol suppressors come up as a subject of discussion, we almost always hear about 9mm, but not the .45. Why? Part of that is due to the owners. The owners of the host firearms, that is. Someone with a steamer trunk full of 9mm polymer-framed pistols is going to be buying 9mm suppressors. It is mostly the old guys who stick with .45, and old guys apparently don’t have beards, ink, or suppressors. (I had a beard before people associated it with tactical. I’m not getting ink/tattoos. I have .45 suppressors.) But a properly-built .45 suppressor can do things a 9mm suppressor cannot.
The Rugged Suppressors Obsidian is a .45 ACP silencer, but it is built for more than just the slow, fat product of American pistol technology of the Edwardian Era.
The baffle stack is composed of a design I call “funnel” or “cone.” The traditional or historical baffles are usually called the “K” and “M” designs, where the cross-section of each looks like the letter naming them. The funnel design is just that, a cylindrical section that is the tube-bearing portion, and then a funnel or cone to the gas diverter. The Rugged Obsidian baffles also have a notch machined into the clearance hole. This is to generate turbulence in the gas flow, and keep it from simply squirting out behind the bullet. By slowing gases you decrease decibels.
